How to Choose Auto Top Boat Cradles & Loading Systems
Choosing the Portage Logistics system best suited for your boat, budget and paddling needs.

Step 1. Choosing a cradle model to best fit your boat design and budget.
All models feature:
• Rapid T-handle attach/detach feature for in vehicle storage.
• Cradles slide independently full length of span bar enabling precision placement.
• Stainless steel carriage bolts with T-handles eliminate need for wrenches.
• Adjustable 3” wide 6,000lb. test, silky soft cradle suspension straps conform to any boat shape.
• Foam padded cradles can be used with or without cradle suspension straps.
• CNC laser cut and machined aircraft grade aluminum cradles and span bars.
• Two NRS 6’ cam straps and two bungie loops for tiedown.
The “Universal A”, in addition to above features, offers rapid T-handle cradle width adjustable features for maximum boat fit to any size or shape boat and deep cradle arms. Front cradle height 8”, rear 6”. Black anodized aluminum.

The “Universal A Rower and Universal Rower”, has matching front and rear cradle arms for optimum boat fit. In addition to above features, offers rapid T-handle cradle width adjustable features for maximum boat fit to any size or shape boat and deep cradle arms. Front cradle height 8”, rear 6”. The “Transport” design features all above with lower profile, 3 position adjustable foam padded cradle arms and removable 3” wide cradle suspension straps. Front cradle height 5”, rear 4”. model SKU#C-T..
The “Express” model features all above with a lower profile cradle with fixed foam padded cradles and removable 3” wide cradle suspension straps. Front cradle height 5”, rear 4”.
Step 2. Selecting a span bar.
• All cradle models come with a standard one piece 8’ span bar that commonly fits most solo watercraft.
• A longer span bar may be better suited for a longer boat just as a shorter span bar may be better suited for a shorter boat. Determine the length of your longest boat and refer to our “boat to bar length chart” to determine the best span bar length.
• Customizing your span bar. Should you have a hatchback vehicle or multiple length boats you may consider customizing. A 2pc. bar will allow the hatch to open without span bar removal and can be shortened for a shorter boat. If choosing a 2pc. span bar the main or longest length needs to span a few inches longer than your widest cross bar placement. If choosing a custom length span bar, you will be credited one dollar per foot, or $80.00 for the standard 8’ span bar. A custom length is determined at $10.00 per foot plus $35.00 for each span bar joint coupler.
• All span bars rapidly attach and de-tach with our patented attachment bracket.
• Multi-piece span bars easily breakdown for trunk storage.
Step 3. Choosing the best quickstep express loading and unloading system.
• All the standard height quickstep express models are height adjustable to fit most vehicles. Our standard models perform well with vehicles from 60” to 84” high.
• We do make custom models for extra high or low vehicles. Measure height of vehicle prior to ordering. Should your vehicle be lower or higher, please contact us for proper fit.
The quickstep express 1pc. flyweight stores on car top aside of span bar or can be removed and placed in vehicle. Total leg length 60”. When not in use, simply attach to garage wall using our wall mount bracket and store 1-3 boats. Made from ¾”x¾” heavy gauge square tubing.

The quickstep express 2pc. flyweight mirrors and performs like the one piece yet breaks down to 32” long legs. Made from ¾”x¾” heavy gauge square tubing.

Our original, standard 3pc. Quickstep express is crafted of 1”x3/4” heavy gauge black anodized aluminum and comes in a heavy cotton canvas storage sack 26” in length.
